Unfortunately the automatic transmission of the SAAB 9000 CSE went crazy. The problem is that while taking off that the first gear is slipping and the car isn’t rolling. However when the second is selected by the gearbox itself the higher gears do not have the same problem. Reverse is also no problem.
The SAAB site comes in handy again.
The dutch SAABforum is a very good source of information: Repair governor
And also our friends from the Alfa Bulletin Board do have good stories to tell: Alfa 164 Automatic Transmission Repair 16-01 🙂
21-11-2010: Today i have taken out the filter for inspection and it seems that the oil-change hasn’t been done in the recent years. The fluid looks like strong coffee (without milk) and as i don’t like coffee i am going to flush the gearbox. The magnet on the gearboxplug is covered with particles which could indicate poor gearbox oil changes or too much wear and tear.
With a little help of my friends (Wouter, Bart and my best buddy Serge) i got the governor out and luckily i can see one rubber ring busted! So i didn’t perform this exercise for John With-the-short-sirname. 🙂
Today i ordered new rings at (Startrans) which will be delivered tomorrow. So i see you tomorrow! 🙂
Update 02-12-2010: Stone cold guerilla-style “beunen”
Here we got the hydraulic compartment apart, well… the last part didn’t coorporate that well.. it’s still in there and how can we get it out?
If we can not get this hydraulic block out i an wondering if we can solve this automatic shifter puzzle…
I’m am replacing the two rubber rings (square edged) and a metal ring (interlocking type).
These are the old ones:
I have talked to the automatic transmission overhaul company ATS Den Haag and they explained to me that the problem that i experience is not directly related to the governor seals. The problem lays on the end of the gear-shaft, hidden deep inside the gearbox… what a bummer!
But i have a solution -> Replacement of the automatic gearbox
