Burnin’ rubber for mounting the Powerflex poly bush to the automatic gearbox

Today we have done some work again in order to have the replacement gearbox onto the 9000CSE.

For the replacement of the gearbox mount we used a Powerflex mounting bush (to match the upper engine mounts 😉 )

To secure a tight fit of the bush you need to re-use the old metal ring of the original black bush, as described here on saabcentral.com.

The rubber compound will not come off easily from the ring. So after some experimenting with the Victorix table knife (even cuts through steel when you need it to) and iron saws we decided to burn the rubber which seems to be te best option.

Materials:

Brake cleaner

Lighter

Little container filled with water (to cool down the iron ring)

Time: 15 minutes
